Hydroplaning occurs when you lose control over your car while driving on wet roadways in Dallas or elsewhere. At Dallas Collision Center, we'd like to take a moment to help you understand how to avoid hydroplaning and minimize your risk of an accident.
First, you should lower your speed while traveling on any road that is covered by any amount of water. This is because you can't judge how deep it is until your car actually goes through it. Therefore, what might seem like an innocent puddle might actually be several feet deep, which could wash your car away.
If you do drive over sufficiently deep water, don't succumb to the temptation to hit the brakes. Instead, simply tap the brakes until your tires make contact with the road. Steering in the direction of any skid that occurs can also help regain control of the vehicle.
