Reducing distracted driving is every driver's responsibility. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), distracted driving claimed 3,142 lives in 2020, and Dallas Collision Center wants drivers to stay safe.
Distracted driving is caused by diverting your attention with behaviors such as texting on your phone, eating, drinking, or adjusting the radio or navigation system while driving. It can also occur by having conversations with passengers.
Texting should never occur while driving. Instead of making a rule that you won't text while driving around Dallas, put your phone in the trunk. And if you have Bluetooth capability, this is the ideal moment to use it! Plan for meals ahead of time or pull over and take a break. And keep conversations at a reasonable level. Loud talking or getting too invested can be a distraction. Keep conversations light, and save deeper ones for later. Driving is the perfect time to say "un-huh" without being considered rude or unengaging!
