At one time or another, we’ve all watched a crime drama where the culprit cut the brake lines on someone’s vehicle so the brake fluid leaks out and potentially causes a crash. Brake fluid is really that important to your vehicle. What exactly is brake fluid and what is its job?

Brake fluid is probably one of the most important fluids in your vehicle because it makes your vehicle stop. It’s a hydraulic fluid that travels through the hydraulic brake system. It transfers force into pressure, which in turn applies pressure on the brake, making your vehicle stop when you want it to stop.

Another benefit of brake fluid is that it prevents corrosion and rust. All brake fluids are not the same, and each vehicle uses a certain type. Your brake fluid should be flushed out and replaced every 30,000 or more miles or sooner if necessary.
